A business with deep family roots
The last thing Astrid Gaiser ever wanted to do again was plant a garden.

"I was surrounded by gardeners growing up, and I swore never to touch another plant when I got older," says Astrid. "Then I moved to California. And things just grew too beautifully around here to resist!" It wasn't long before everyone wanted Astrid's gardening advice. A few years later, she was studying horticulture and opening up Astrid Gaiser Design.
Sowing seeds on the web
Astrid knew early on she wanted a website for her company. "A website is the best way to showcase your portfolio," she says. "Your business doesn't look serious if you don't have one."

Astrid especially enjoys how the website brings in new business to her shop. "The website has definitely helped increase sales. About 20% of my clients are from the website. "Having a good website has really helped my business grow, because I can show how I'm different," she explains. "For example, unlike most designers, I work with tropical plants. Clients couldn't know this without either seeing one of my gardens or checking my website. A lot of people hire me because of my website."

Not only does the website help increase sales, it saves on time too. "Fewer people call now only to be discouraged by the fees," she says. "It's wonderfully efficient: about 50 percent of the people that call end up contracting my services." She credits her website with improving her bottom line. "I have definitely saved money in terms of effort and marketing," she concludes. "I can spend more time on my business because Intuit Websites takes care of the marketing for me."
