UK economies<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>More than <strong>98%<\/strong> of employers in the US, Canada, and the UK are small businesses.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Small businesses provide <strong>negative<\/strong> <strong>small business employment growth<\/strong> in the US, Canada, and the UK during the first half of 2023 following interest rate increases.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Compared to pre-pandemic levels, average monthly credit card expenditure is up by an average of <strong>20%<\/strong> \u2014 creating potential vulnerabilities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>At the same time, monthly credit card payments made by small businesses are <strong>26%<\/strong> higher, on average, than before the pandemic.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img I tried to pass that on to the customer a little bit. But I know that we did not pass all of that on, which is unfortunate.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">-Ashley Rodgers, Business owner, Rodgers Greens and Roots<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Funding is a persistent challenge for small businesses<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Roughly half of small business owners surveyed in the US, Canada, and the UK have <strong>self-funded<\/strong> their business (58% in the US, 51% in Canada, 48% in the UK) \u2014&nbsp;often by working other jobs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Young businesses <\/strong>and <strong>businesses<\/strong> <strong>owned by women and underrepresented racial groups<\/strong> often face greater challenges getting funding.
