I was an electrician with my own small business, but I was ready to switch to a new field. I\u2019m Philip, a Seasonal Tax Associate for Intuit. Let me share with you the advantages of starting a tax career with a company that offers everything you need to thrive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhy not make a career pivot?\u201d That\u2019s what I asked myself when I had to shut down my own small business. \u200b\u200bI was an electrician, but health reasons made me hang up the tool belt. Now it was time to choose a new profession. As a one-person show, I\u2019d been keeping my own books and doing taxes with a DIY, learn-as-I-go approach. I realized I always had a knack for numbers\u2014and I liked the challenge of working with them\u2014so I joined Intuit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I started in a product support role, working remotely and helping customers with TurboTax. If they had a problem with software installation or couldn\u2019t get logged in, I\u2019d walk them through the steps on the phone to resolve the issue. The more experiences I had with the software, the more comfortable I felt using the product, and the more I appreciated how TurboTax made filing taxes so much easier and efficient. My role in TurboTax product support led to more than a paycheck\u2014it sparked my interest in the tax field. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Remember I mentioned my career pivot? This is when it really started to come together. I found out Intuit would provide tax training through Intuit Academy<\/a>, the company\u2019s online tax and bookkeeping training hub. I can tell you firsthand, it\u2019s a great option to jumpstart your tax career. Intuit Academy\u2019s learning modules taught me everything I needed to know about tax preparation. It\u2019s self-paced: I completed the training when it fit my schedule, and I could do it anytime and anywhere in the United States. It\u2019s completely free: I got access to the course material without paying a dime. It helps make me a more marketable candidate: I earned an Intuit Academy badge when I took the tax preparation exam and got a passing score. The breadth and depth of what I learned through Intuit Academy is transferable. Even if I decide to do tax work for another company, my Intuit training has set me up for success wherever I go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I love that Intuit gives me the flexibility of working from home. I\u2019m not stuck at my desk from 9 AM to 5 PM. I can choose to work early mornings, late nights, or anything in-between. I go online and set up a pretty consistent schedule for myself. Along with flexible schedules, I am eligible for bonuses, a 401(k) retirement plan, an employee stock option purchase plan, and much more. Best of all? I can work seasonally or part-time and still get great benefits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There\u2019s something else that makes Intuit a special place to work: the people. Your coworkers will have your back, so don\u2019t be intimidated by challenging tax situations. On my own team, everyone has unique experiences to share. They all know I\u2019m fairly new to the field, so we\u2019ll jump on group calls to chat about tax issues and solutions. My manager is incredibly supportive as well. I can bounce questions off her through a messaging channel or reach out for an individual huddle meeting. When you join Intuit, you\u2019ll find the encouragement you need to learn and help progress in your tax career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tax knowledge I\u2019ve developed at Intuit has put me on a great path. And whether you choose to work full time, part-time, or seasonally, you\u2019ll find it emotionally rewarding. Why? Because you\u2019re doing more than taxes\u2014you\u2019re helping people who feel overwhelmed. I have one customer, a single guy, who had to become the guardian of his four-year-old niece. He\u2019s such a friendly, responsible person, but he doesn\u2019t make a lot of money or have an affinity for numbers. As I went through his taxes, I explained to him some of the credits that he could qualify for as a caregiver. When he found out how much of a tax refund he’d receive, he was blown away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m so glad Intuit helped me reskill and find a career path forward. Now I\u2019m making a real difference in people\u2019s lives\u2014all while being part of a company that helps me live my own best life. Joining Intuit is the best career decision I\u2019ve ever made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
