{"id":6191,"date":"2021-08-09T07:57:08","date_gmt":"2021-08-09T14:57:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/intuitblog.com\/?p=6191"},"modified":"2021-08-09T07:57:08","modified_gmt":"2021-08-09T14:57:08","slug":"introducing-intuits-indigenous-peoples-network","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.intuit.com\/blog\/life-at-intuit\/introducing-intuits-indigenous-peoples-network\/","title":{"rendered":"Introducing Intuit\u2019s Indigenous Peoples Network"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Today marks International Day of the World\u2019s Indigenous Peoples day&#8211;a day to elevate awareness and protect the rights of Indigenous communities around the world.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After experiencing a year of many unprecedented events for our underrepresented communities, this year\u2019s World Indigenous Peoples Day has brought new learnings, conversations and goals to the forefront not only for myself but for all of Intuit. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While we&#8217;ve made progress, we must <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.intuit.com\/blog\/social-responsibility\/addressing-racial-equity-at-intuit-from-the-inside-out\/?search_term=racial%20equity\" ><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">continue to do more<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Especially regarding employing and retaining a greater percentage of Black, Hispanic or LatinX, U.S. Indigenous (Native American, Native Alaskan and Native Hawaiian) employees across all levels of the company, as we\u2019ve included in our company\u2019s True North Goals.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We know we can\u2019t reach these goals alone, and for us to truly understand the needs of our underrepresented communities, we must take the time as <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.intuit.com\/blog\/social-responsibility\/4-roles-you-can-play-to-be-a-better-ally\/\" ><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">allies<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to listen and learn.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I\u2019m excited to keep the learning going and continue building stronger allyship through our newest employee resource group (ERG), the<\/span><b> Intuit<\/b> <b>Indigenous Peoples Network<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Intuit Indigenous Peoples Network officially launched after <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CEO <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.intuit.com\/company\/executives\/sasan-goodarzi\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sasan Goodarzi<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> called out Native Americans as an example of a community to recruit more actively during a State of the Company. After a number of conversations and completing a pilot period, the<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Intuit Indigenous Peoples Network is now over 100 members strong and growing.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the mission to call forth, encourage, and lift Indigenous employees and their allies at Intuit, the Indigenous Peoples Network is focused on four priorities:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Establish and build a global platform and community for <\/span><b>Indigenous employees and allies at Intuit to have visibility, voice, and space<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to bring their whole selves to work<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Support recruiting efforts<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to bring Indigenous people to Intuit<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Highlight our indigenous customers and partners <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for awareness, engagement, and support<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lastly, <\/span><b>determine the needs of, and support<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, our local Indigenous communities<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">L<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ast October, the group connected on Indigenous Peoples Day (US)&#8211;also known as Columbus Day&#8211;for a coast-to-coast land acknowledgment. Each person acknowledged the people whose lands where they were at that moment and in November, the still-unofficial group (at that time) sponsored a Virtual Prosperity Pop-up with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pradosbeauty.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prados Beauty<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, an online beauty product shop owned by QuickBooks and TurboTax customer Cece Meadows. They also found ways to come together virtually in solidarity after news of the genocides coming to light in North America this year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Global in Nature <\/b><b><br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Because most of Intuit\u2019s workplaces occupy lands of Indigenous peoples, the ERG advocated for global reach right from the start. On <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the Australian continent, Aboriginal peoples have a long history of displacement and genocide, once peoples and powers from other places colonized their lands. In Brazil, the Amazon basin includes at least a dozen unique Indigenous peoples, from the Arakmbut to the Xavante. In the United States, Canada, and Mexico, of course, Intuit\u2019s offices sit on the unceded lands of tribes like the Ohlone (Mountain View), the Tohono O\u2019odham (Tucson), and others.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Equally important, however, is the fact that dozens of Intuit employees identify as Indigenous or feel connected to the Indigenous community.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our Intuit Indigenous Peoples Network is one of 12 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.intuit.com\/blog\/social-responsibility\/building-an-inclusive-culture-with-employee-resource-groups\/\" ><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">employee resource groups<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at Intuit \u2014 our employees do not have to be Indigenous to join, just interested in being an ally to the Indigenous community.
