| TurboTax Invites Kids To Speak Out About Taxes |
| Best Entries of National Contest Presented to Congress |
| San Diego , Calif. - January 12, 1999 - Children are always helping out around the house, but this year TurboTax® invites elementary school children to pitch in and assist the federal government, by divvying up the tax pie. Intuit, the makers of TurboTax, America’s number-one selling tax software, is sponsoring a nationwide contest called "Kids Speak Out About Taxes." The contest asks third- through fifth-grade students to submit an entry of 25 words or less in response to the question: "How do you think the U.S. government should spend our tax dollars?" One grand-prize winner will receive a $1,500 contribution to an Education IRA established in his or her name by Intuit. In addition, 10 semi-finalists will each receive a $50 United States Savings Bond, and all of the winning entries will be published in a newsletter that will be sent to members of Congress. "It is important for future leaders to learn at an early age the value of prudent saving and spending," said Bob Meighan, vice president of personal tax for Intuit. "This contest provides a fun and creative way for children to talk about basic civics and, in the process, earn a chance to win money toward a higher education." The TurboTax "Kids Speak Out About Taxes" Contest begins January 12th and runs until February 26th, 1999. The contest is open to all elementary school children currently in grades three through five who are legal residents of the United States and who are attending public, private or parochial schools located within the United States. A distinguished panel of TurboTax tax experts will judge the entries. How To Enter
