| WebTurboTax Filers Exceed 175,000 |
| SAN DIEGO, Calif. - March 3, 1999 - Intuit Inc. (NASDAQ:INTU) today reported that 700,000 Federal tax returns have been filed electronically through its #1-selling TurboTax® and MacInTax® personal tax preparation software and WebTurboTaxSM, TurboTax's Web-based counterpart service. This represents a 142 percent increase over last year's year-to-date volume. As of February 19, 1999, the IRS received 843,000 individually prepared tax returns electronically1. Returns filed through TurboTax/MacInTax and WebTurboTax accounted for 60% of these. Intuit also reports that, so far this year, more than 175,000 tax returns have been completed and filed via WebTurboTax, which is nearly nine times that of last year's total volume. Historically, 73 percent of WebTurboTax users file their returns electronically. "We've been working to help the IRS achieve its goal of 80 percent of all returns filed electronically eight years from now," said Larry Wolfe, senior vice president of Intuit's Tax Division. "Electronic filing is the quickest and most accurate way for our customers to file." WebTurboTax is available for use on the Web at www.webturbotax.com. As part of the Quicken Tax Freedom Project (http://turbotax.intuit.com/taxfreedom), taxpayers with an adjusted gross income of $20,000 or less can prepare and file at no charge using WebTurboTax this year. |
