Marines Deployed To Intuit For The Sake Of San Diego's Children
Intuit proves there is no Grinch here
SAN DIEGO - December 18, 2002 - The troops have landed… to pick up 430 bicycles, safety helmets and locks, along with other various toys donated by the employee-driven We Care & Give Back committee at Intuit. Through year-round efforts of the more than 1,000 employees located here in San Diego, the committee raised in excess of $25,000 to benefit Toys for Tots for the 2002 holiday season. At 10:00 AM Wednesday, December 18, 2002, members of the U.S. Marine Corps arrived at Intuit (6220 Greenwich Drive, San Diego) to pick up the hundreds of bikes, scooters and toys purchased for this 55th year of Toys for Tots.

"Intuit employees continue to show their ongoing commitment to the community by their generous Toys for Tots bicycle and toy donations, as well as the programming time and server space they contributed", said Tom Allanson, Senior Vice President of Intuit. The employees of Intuit, one of the single-largest San Diego supporters, have approached the Toys for Tots program every year with a refreshing and enthusiastic affirmation of the human quality of hope.

In a year where overall charitable donations seem to be down, not so where Intuit employees are concerned. This year's focus was on purchasing bicycles and scooters for San Diego children, which are often the most difficult wishes to fulfill. In addition, Intuit set up a website dedicated to registering eligible Toys for Tots organizations online. Funds from this year's efforts were used to acquire a record number of 430 bicycles, surpassing last year's total of 326, to bring the joy of the holidays to many San Diego-area children. Over the past eight years, 1,544 bikes have been donated to Toys for Tots in San Diego on behalf of Intuit.

The employee-driven fund was named The Beverly Parker Toys for Tots Fund in memory of Beverly Parker, an employee who passed away four years ago. Ms. Parker, founder of the fund at Intuit, was recognized company-wide for her consistent selflessness. The fund continuously receives cash and donations through employee-sponsored events, such as aluminum can recycling, bake sales, cookbook sales, bookfairs, and silent auctions.
