Intuit Offers New Network Management Product
Identifies Potential Network Problems Before They Occur
TAMPA, Fla. - August 11, 2004 - Intuit Inc.'s (Nasdaq: INTU) Information Technology Solutions division announced today that it has expanded its product line with Intuit® Network Monitor. This new offering, from the maker of the Intuit

Track-It!® help desk and asset management family of products, helps IT managers and network engineers detect and solve potentially costly computer network problems before they occur.

Intuit Network Monitor delivers powerful, flexible tools to continuously monitor network health and performance. It helps ensure maximum availability of mission-critical server applications and vital network resources and avoid costly down time.

"Network Monitor will typically pay for itself with the first incident avoided," said David Weiss, vice president and general manager of Intuit Information Technology Solutions. "With the average cost of a network failure at $2,000, investing in Network Monitor becomes an easy decision for IT managers. Now customers can rely on quality network monitoring products from the same vendor they trust to provide help desk and asset management tools."

Easy to install and start-up, Network Monitor begins working immediately. It automatically creates a map of network objects and monitors all aspects of the network - from servers and ports to applications and services - and alerts IT management to network failures and performance issues.

Network Monitor also helps IT professionals meet service-level agreements, and deliver a high level of network performance and uptime to ensure business continuity.

Network Monitor is a standalone product that integrates with and complements the functionality of Track-It!. Track-It! helps network managers quickly and effectively respond to IT issues, while Network Monitor notifies them of potential network problems before they cause disruptions and affect productivity.

Network Monitor is available in both Standard and Professional editions.

Standard Edition
Network Monitor Standard Edition gives customers extensive monitoring and notification capabilities. Monitoring capabilities include the following:

  • Visually Enhanced Interface — Customize the network map to match physical and logical network topology.
  • Object Maintenance (Current or Schedulable) — Takes devices offline on the map to stop monitoring and notification immediately or for a set period of time.
  • Windows NT Operating System Services and Process — Monitors Windows NT operating system services and processes hosted by the operating system. Restarts a failed service or process, or sends a failure notification.
  • SNMP v. 1 and v. 2 Support — Supports both SNMP versions to obtain any variable that can be received natively or by compiling a custom MIB.
  • Performance Objects — Counters and Thresholds - Creates a list of objects and counters for a given NT machine and provides the ability to set threshold values that will set off notification triggers.

Notification capabilities include:

  • Records Events into NT and Network Monitor Event Log — Automatically records event triggers into the Network Monitor log upon error. Provides option to record triggers into the Windows NT Event Log, tracking exactly when and how many times a particular event has occurred.
  • Sends e-mail and Alpha or Numeric Page — Uses an SMTP server to route e-mail alerts to an administrator, or other specified e-mail address, when a network object is in an error state, sends alpha or numeric pages via modem to a cell phone or pager, or coded alerts to numeric pagers.
  • Runs a Customizable Visual Basic Development System Macro — Performs specific actions, such as rebooting a failed system or sending a customized alert to specified people, when an object is in an error state (Cypress Enable visual basic script(s) included. Limited support provided).

Professional Edition
Network Monitor Professional Edition gives customers the same monitoring and notification capabilities as the Standard Edition, but with the addition of event log filtering and reporting capabilities, performance counter log and Microsoft Web Server log analysis. With these features, users can gather information about hardware, software, and system problems.
