Filing Taxes by Phone? Not Anymore
SnapTax for TeleFilers is newest option for taxpayers accustomed to filing by phone
SAN DIEGO, Calif., - Jan. 11, 2006 - The Internal Revenue Service has discontinued TeleFile, its file-by-phone program, requiring 3 million taxpayers to seek an alternate tax preparation choice this year. To help make the move from telephone to the Internet simple and seamless, Intuit Inc. (Nasdaq: INTU), makers of TurboTax® software, now offers a breakthrough online service, SnapTaxSM for TeleFilers, to file a simple 1040EZ return online.

SnapTax for TeleFilers is designed especially for taxpayers with simple tax needs and is an authorized IRS e-file provider. Like TeleFile, SnapTax offers an efficient, paperless option that lets taxpayers electronically send their federal taxes via secure transmission directly to the IRS and get their refund back fast- in as little as 10 days with direct deposit. Instead of using the telephone, taxpayers use a computer to enter their tax information and the math is done automatically.

"TeleFilers don't need to go back to paper and pencil when there are easy online options like SnapTax available," said Brad Henske, general manager of Intuit's consumer tax group. "It's fast, accurate and makes the transition from phone to computer so simple."

Many TeleFilers will go online to file their taxes this year. Derrick Lerum, a former TeleFiler from San Antonio, plans to do just that.

"I file a 1040EZ form and using the Internet seems like the next best thing," Lerum said. "I want to get my taxes done quickly and get my refund back fast."

Former TeleFilers can print and prepare their Federal 1040EZ form for free at www.telefiler.com. For just $5.95, they can electronically file their Federal tax return. SnapTax and IRS electronic filing will be available to taxpayers on Jan.13, 2006.
