Curriculum FAQs
No. Each course is standalone and there are no prerequisites. Content is cumulative meaning intermediate covers everything in beginner and advanced everything in beginner and intermediate.
We recommend you choose which course to teach based on the following:
- Business type/topics: Beginner (service business), Intermediate (adds inventory, payroll, sales tax), Advanced (adds job costing, estimates, cash flow)
- Time available: Beginner is the shortest; Advanced is the most comprehensive
- Certification goal: only Advanced is aligned to the QuickBooks Level 1 Certification exam
Each module will take 1-2 hours, covering both instruction and student case study work. That totals 10 hours for Beginner, 20 hours for Intermediate, and 32 hours for Advanced, as shown in the table above. You can choose how to allocate that time between in-class instruction and assessment or out of class work time.
The Advanced course (Inflow Heating & Cooling) is the only course that fully prepares students for the Intuit QuickBooks Level 1 Certification exam, which is a free, industry-recognized credential. While the Beginner and Intermediate courses develop practical QuickBooks Online skills, they do not cover all of the content required to pass the certification exam. Students taught the curriculum in class can skip straight to Intuit Academy and test out by taking the exam directly.
Yes. Intuit Academy offers a free, self-paced course that students can complete before taking the Intuit QuickBooks Level 1 Certification exam. Students work through the self-paced curriculum on their own schedule, which takes approximately 7.5 hours.
Unlike the courses above, this self-paced option does not include hands-on practice in the actual QuickBooks Online tool.
Twice a year, before the start of each semester, to match the latest QuickBooks Online tool.
Screenshots are created on a populated data set, and QuickBooks Online is always updating. We refresh content twice a year and recommend you check your QuickBooks Online version number if you notice a mismatch.
Educators can't view custom reports created by students unless the student submits the report as a PDF. To view a custom report in a student's company, create the custom report in your demo company first; the student then creates the same report in their company file. Both reports should match the case study in the guides.
