Charting the rise of builder culture at Intuit India

“We’re continuously shaping solutions that are not only innovative but also aligned with future industry standards,” says Uttam Ramamurthy, one of the first builders to join Intuit India.

An ‘aha! moment’ happens when sudden insight breaks through the usual stream of thoughts. This moment of clarity can arise during problem-solving efforts, or it can emerge unexpectedly, providing a fresh perspective or novel idea. These leaps of insights can lead to innovation breakthroughs—especially when technologists are encouraged to embrace a builder’s mindset that extends beyond mere creation.

Knowing that being an Intuit builder doesn’t simply mean using expertise to create new things in isolation. Rather, it involves collaboration and coordination with other teams, and the steps aren’t rigidly preset within the Intuit culture. It’s perfectly aligned with the needs of builders—enabling them to freely propose ideas and shape project directions, without being confined by a fixed blueprint.

Abhishek Yadav, who recently came on board as a builder and senior staff engineer at Intuit India speaks from his own experience: “The builder culture at Intuit allows for open-ended challenges not only involving the application of advanced technologies like AI but also development and integration across multiple products leading to production. This scenario opens the door for me to propose my ideas and vision of what those projects in the end stage could look like and how it can be executed.”

We’re focused on strategic team alignment

Intuit operates within a collaborative framework often referred to as a triad or quad structure. This framework is essential as it fosters synergy across multiple teams—the development team, the product design team, the product management team, and the user experience team. In scenarios that demand specialized expertise, the AI team is also deeply involved.

“We’re better positioned to innovate by having all groups united in their focus and objectives, resulting in a positive impact on our customers,” says Uttam Ramamurthy, one of the first builders to join Intuit India. “This collaborative structure is crucial when building new, innovative AI experiences. It ensures that all teams involved align and operate with an AI-first mindset. “

By leveraging the strengths and perspectives of each team in the quad, they can create products that not only meet but exceed customer expectations, setting new standards in the industry. Achieving synergy in these three aspects is crucial, as it drives successful realization of Intuit’s objectives.

Spotlighting our builders’ path to growth—with AI

After six months in the role, Uttam describes his work at Intuit as “progressive”—tapping into different opportunities to create AI native ‘Done-for-you’ experiences for customers. His journey as a builder exemplifies the pursuit of innovation and AI integration at the core of Intuit’s operations.

Taking on a leadership role in AI projects across Intuit’s mid-market to deliver expert-driven, ‘Done-for-you’ experiences, Uttam says “my first task was to address the complexities inherent in developing AI-powered experiences for our customers. A key focus was optimizing the AI we use. It was crucial to determine the most effective AI tools and technologies that would not only meet our current needs but also improve our customer offerings.”

Perhaps the most significant impact that Uttam made was by shifting the team’s perspective to prioritize AI in their developmental approach, setting a new standard within the system. This approach focuses on finding the most effective methods for delivering customer solutions and choosing the best technology to develop the required capabilities. His role has evolved in a short span of time to amplify operational success too.

This ethos of integrating AI-driven tools to improve customer experience is a shared commitment that Abhishek also embraces in his approach as a builder: “My role encompasses both defining what needs to be done and determining how to do it well for our customers. And my focus lies in shaping and executing the project’s roadmap.”

Illustrating the work to provide builders of the future a vision, Uttam explains his focus beyond technology integration—“Subsequently, I shifted to overseeing project financials, introducing a fungible team focused on achieving a singular, targeted goal. This move emphasized the importance of strategic team composition and goal alignment for streamlined project success,” he says.

In addition to spearheading several Agentic AI projects, Uttam is focused on continued progression, positioning AI as a key catalyst throughout various systems. Agentic AI, is an example of how Intuit teams are simplifying tasks for customers—providing easy access to AI-enhanced human tax and bookkeeping experts whenever needed.

With their distinct roles and experiences, Abhishek says “my experience at Intuit coupled with focused goals and vision concerning AI has significantly influenced my decision to join the company. This is a striking contrast to my previous role, and I’m inspired to contribute effectively here at Intuit.”

In short, their commitment to contributing at Intuit is a testament to how the company’s clear goals and flexible approach at Intuit not only draw in builders but also inspire them to excel and make significant contributions in service to powering the financial prosperity of our customers.
