Semi-retired and (still) thriving as a tax expert at Intuit

Like many tax and bookkeeping experts, I joined Intuit in semi-retirement. I found satisfaction in solving customers’ important problems without the responsibility of running my own full-time business.

Libby Wages, a tax expert with an enrolled agent credential from Atlanta, Georgia, joined Intuit while in semi-retirement. She’s thrilled that Intuit has empowered her to use technology with confidence while she helps consumers and small businesses run their financial lives.

Intuit makes it easy to learn the latest technology

Like you, I’m confident in my tax and accounting abilities. But the technology piece had always intimidated me. The honest truth? At my age, I had never used technology in my own practice. But Intuit’s training and resources make utilizing technology easy. As my son would say, “it’s off the chain.” Intuit creates AI-driven tools that help streamline our processes—allowing me to focus on the advisory work I love to do for my clients.

If I need guidance about an issue I’m not well versed in, I can sign in to our internal portal to connect with literally thousands of Intuit experts across the country. So if I get a call from, say, a cattle farmer in the middle of Montana with tax questions—I don’t know anything about the tax implications of cattle farming, mind you—it only takes a few clicks to find an expert who can give me the answer I need. Intuit’s technology training has helped me in more ways than one. The simple tech skills I’ve learned how to use at the company allow me to feel confident in running my own virtual office I keep for my side practice.

Stay fresh with supplemental training

We also have access to supplemental training that keeps us in the know. I’ll get an automated email that says, “you’ve been assigned a new learning module,” and I can complete it at my convenience.

Not only do we get additional technology training, but Intuit makes sure we stay updated on changes to tax and accounting rules from the IRS that you need. The updates are always spot on, and it’s this kind of professional assistance that has kept me with Intuit for 11+ years—there’s no place I’d rather work!

Paying it forward as a mentor

While I love helping our customers, I enjoy the satisfaction of sharing my knowledge with people just starting their careers in tax and bookkeeping. When I told my manager I’d like to mentor professionals who join Intuit, she encouraged me to pursue this goal. Today, I help our newer experts learn internal policies and procedures as well as grasp unfamiliar tax issues. With almost half a century of experience under my belt, I’ve got a wealth of knowledge to share with my co-workers.
