It has never been more important to fight climate change. But we can’t do it alone. Helping the planet will take all of us.

Earlier this year, we announced that we hit our goal of being 100% powered by renewable energy, 10 years ahead of schedule. We’ve continued to set bold new sustainability goals to help reverse climate change both within Intuit and beyond.

As part of our 2030 climate positive goal, we’re focused on developing sustainable solutions for our employees, customers, communities and partners, so that together we can implement initiatives that benefit the planet.

Providing Alternate Energy Solutions with Octopus Energy

To help us reach our goals and increase our impact, we’ve teamed up with the United Kingdom’s largest renewable energy provider, Octopus Energy, to provide alternative energy solutions, including solar, wind and water to our Intuit UK employees and QuickBooks Online (QBO) customers.

Connected through Intuit’s platform, employees and QuickBooks customers in the UK can sign up through Octopus Energy’s affiliate links to receive energy credits toward their utility bills. Employees will receive £25 ($34 USD) per fuel type as credit and customers will receive £100 ($136 USD) credit, regardless of if they are a single or dual fuel customer. Those who take advantage of the opportunity can receive additional energy credits through Octopus’ referral program, multiplying their impact.

First of its kind for Intuit, this program helps us move one step closer towards reducing global greenhouse gas emissions by 50 times the company’s overall 2018 output, two million metric tonnes, by 2030. We’re excited about the potential impact of sustainable partnerships, like with Octopus Energy. If just 1% of UK QBO customers switch to 100% renewable electricity with Octopus Energy, it will reduce carbon emissions by 30,000 metric tonnes per year, larger than Intuit’s current carbon footprint for its global operations.

Partnering with organizations like Octopus Energy is critical so that we can collectively act on climate change. But that’s just one part of our larger climate positive commitment to help create a more sustainable future for all.

Our Promise to the Planet

At Intuit, our mission is to power prosperity around the world. Delivering on that mission means many things. It goes beyond our products. It’s about leaving the world a better place than we found it — and doing everything we can to help protect our planet

We’re committed to surpassing carbon neutrality to positively impact the environment and communities around the world who are dealing with the adverse effects of climate change.

In 2018, Intuit launched its partnership with Just Energy, a program named Purely Green, to empower customers in Texas to adopt sustainable energy solutions for their businesses. Purely Green offers discounted renewable electricity to hundreds of thousands of electricity customers across Texas. The renewable energy and renewable energy credits are sourced from EDP Renewables’ (EDPR) Lone Star II Wind Farm located near Abilene, TX.

From partnering with alternative energy suppliers to signing the United Nations Global Compact pledge, we’re doing our part to help reduce climate change. This helps solidify our commitment to a 1.5°C science-based emissions reduction target and is aligned with the latest climate science to help limit the worst impacts of climate change.
